City Council
Type
City Council
Description
The City of Longmont is governed by a seven-member Council. Councilmembers are elected every two years during odd-numbered years. The Mayor is elected to serve a two-year term and each Councilmember is elected to serve a four-year term. The Mayor and Council members are the leaders and policymakers in the community elected to represent various segments of the community and to concentrate on policy issues that are responsive to residents' needs and wishes.
The City of Longmont is geographically divided into three election wards. Voters from each Ward elect one City Council member to represent the residents who live in that Ward. The remaining Council members (called At-Large representatives) and the Mayor are elected by all voting residents of the community and represent the interests of the whole community.
City Council meets most Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Consult the Mayor and City Council Calendar for details on when meetings are scheduled. Consult the City’s Agenda Management Portal for detailed agendas for City Council and all City advisory boards and commissions.
